A thread about how we're all kind of sick of Obama and wondering if we'll spend the next three years paying for the first 100 days.

Quote
The highest point on Antigua, formerly known as 'Boggy Peak,' has been renamed 'Mount Obama' in honor of the new President of the United States, Barack Obama.

Mount Obama is 1,300 feet above sea level and a popular hiking spot; it also is home to several TV towers, doubtless used by Antiguans and Barbudans to watch the coverage of Obama's inauguration.

The name change was initially announced after Obama's election victory in November; Baldwin Spencer, prime minister of Antigua and Barbuda, wrote to Obama saying that, "Your message of change will ignite hope and action in people of many countries who might still be passive in the face of inadequacies and injustice.

Well, when I consider the alternative, I will take throngs of Obama worshippers over Sarah Goddamn Palin in D.C. for the forseeable future... although, SNL probably won't be as funny.

That's my grandfather's attitude.  Anything to keep women out of government.

Well, I'm just saying... if you think you're sick of Obama now, imagine what you'd be saying if McCain had won.  Jesus... the first 100 days would have felt like a century.

No...it'd be fine.  Because that's what I expected, and it would be more of the same horror we've been spoon-fed for years.  We made it through eight years of Bush without eating a bullet...why not 12 years?

With Obama, we're on new ground.  And considering America is no longer invincible, that's kind of scary.  Which I've cried about on the front page...

Naomi Klein commented to me that it's worrisome when the populace idolizes the president to such a degree that they're still wearing t-shirts with his name on them after the election.

We're still in the honeymoon stage where it's sex on the kitchen floor every night. Give it time.

I'm actually trying to figure out why I'm supposed to be worried that people have t-shirts with Obama on them. Should I hate a basketball player when he gets a contract? Or.... ?

I think the issue is less with someone wearing a t-shirt and more with people whose houses are plastered with Obama yard signs -- inside and out!  There are two folks I know who have built yard-sign-shrines throughout their houses.  Like, Obama signs hanging from the ceiling so you have to duck and push them out of your way.  The entire family wearing Obama shirts as their dinner outfits.  A picture of Obama and other posters and stickers forming a candle-lit shrine in the fireplace.

I've seen this, and heard stories of others living like that.

Yep.  Bought 2 on the internets because I thought they were cool and the other 2 I got for donating money to the campaign.
