Lost Season Three: Idiot Ball
« on: June 21, 2006, 08:57:53 AM »
So with a much more organized and interesting finale for season two, I'm looking forward to Lost Mk. II in season three, which appears to involve worldwide conspiracies and rich English women hunting for the wicked maniples of the Dharma Initiative all in the hopes of rescuing a drunken Scot who, as far as we know, has been atomized by a blast of electro-magnetic freakout along with two main characters.

Meanwhile, the creepiest guy alive plays Henry Gale, king of the Others, slinking around with emotionless eyes and delivering lines like a cold fish on a humid day.

We leave off with the uncertain fate of the hatch, the foreigners sitting on a sailboat wondering about how great it is to be fucked over, and our main heroes in the hands of Henry Gale... Plus the great hook, the delicious finale -- Penny Widmer's arctic listening post locating the island.  Mrs. Peel -- We're needed!

ComiCon tidbits/rumors

Quote
Lost was intended to be a 4-5 season arch ending with a feature length movie. Damon Lindelof said that they are still planning on sticking to that plan but it's hard because the show is a hit now. But they don't want the show to end up like the X-files. They don't want to finish that main story line in season five and then have to "tap dance" for two seasons because the network doesn't want the show to end. He mentioned that when that time comes they may have to consider walking from the show.

Time may not be passing on the island at the same rate as off the island. The question was asked about the amount of time that has passed on the island in the first two seasons at which point Damon interrupted and said that's assuming that time is passing on the island at the same rate that it is in the outside world. That produced audible gasps from the audience and the two actors on stage had shocked looks on their faces. Damon continued to talk about the concept of the passage of time at which point Carlton Cuse interrupted him asking if he wanted to reveal that much so Damon just left it at that.

Hansoexpose.com. At one point a "protester" crashed the presentation and confronted the producers asking if they had no shame. She said her name was Rachel Blake and that the Hanso foundation was real and that the producers were using them for entertainment purposes even though they had done terrible things in Africa and Iceland. She said to go to hansoexpose.com if we wanted the real truth just before security escorted her away.

There are no clones on Lost. Damon Lindelof gave his personal promise and guarantee that there are no clones in the show. Nothing personal against clones, they're people just like us (literally) but there are no clones on Lost.

There are no nanobots on Lost. If you were there and were wondering who the lone guy was clapping at that revelation, it was me. That's right, straight from the horses mouth NO NANOBOTS.

There will be an extra on the DVD of every nick name sawyer has used cut together into one clip which I personally can't wait to see!

Vincent flashback? When asked why Vincent the dog didn't leave the island with Walt and Michael, Damon said if he had they wouldn't be able to do the Vincent flashback episode!

Libby will be back in flashbacks! Damon and Cuse said Libby's back story was significant and still needed to be told since she didn't have a flashback episode. So she will be back in flashbacks much like Jack's dad has been through out the show even though he's dead.

The literal translation of the hieroglyphics according to Damon Lindelof is "Underworld"

The statue shown in season finale wasn't just put there because it looks cool. The history of the island will become important and it is older than we were originally led to believe.

The six episode mini-series that opens the season will reveal more about the others. The first episode will be titled "A Tale of two Cities" and be penned partly by J.J. Abrams. Abrams will also direct episode 7, the first one back from the break. The new scheduling format is a direct result of fans complaining about all the repeats this last season.

There will be a major revelation midway through the season that Lindelof said will either blow you away or make you say the show has jumped the shark.

They've lost all talent, I'm telling you.  It's easy:  Hanso discovered Atlantis/Lemuria and tried to harness the super secret power that both of those lost civilizations have in the legends.  Something got fucked and blew the Dharma Initiative apart, leaving a small group of survivors.  Hanso couldn't approach the island because of it and sealed it off in some way.  Meanwhile, "I'm rich so I can find anything" what's-her-name knows about this failed project since her dad either owns Hanso or operates in their circles.  Now her organization, equally large and all-powerful, will go to war over Desmond, who's been vaporized into fairy dust.

Now, maybe the Dharma folks are all dead, which I think because the Earth2 guy that Desmond killed was sort of alone, no?  But the reports being sent out from the central station all looked pretty fresh, so maybe Dharma had a hold up until shortly before the plane crash, then merged with a group of rogue Dharma agents and various castaways who make up the Others.

Meanwhile -- the forgotten plotline is the other group of Others -- the "zombies" that Mr. Echo and Jin saw.  They were nanobot clone angels.

I fucking hate this show.  Season two betrayed me and, looking back now, season one is unwatchable.  It's crappy, weak, poorly written and thought out, and doesn't have any strength except for the contrived uber-finales that take the last four episodes or so to build.  The episodes of Remington Steele that didn't have Pierce Brosnan after they came back from hiatus were richer and more enjoyable.

Not to mention that all of the interesting characters were vaporized in the finale.  And even if they get out of that, which would be stupid, there's no way they can skip right back into the regular storyline easily.

So... Season three starts on October 4th!  Why am I so excited?

So... That was intensely disappointing, made very little sense, had nothing but frustrating, artificial moments, lacked any sort of cohesive plot and felt like they hired a team of people who had no idea what happened in the last two seasons to write the episode on the fly 12 hours before filming.

I can't wait till the last four episodes of this season which will be fantastic and wild.  Hopefully I can make it through the next 20 episodes of utter stupidity.

Oh thank god... We finally find out (kinda) what happened after the big fat finale last season.  Or the other part of the finale, rather.  As wonderful as Henry Gale, or whatever his new name is, has been -- and he is the first good thing to come to Lost since Desmond ran away at the start of the second season -- we all want to know what's with the hatch.  So we open with Locke, and have a nice Locke episode, and I'll say what I've been saying for two years -- Terry O'Quinn is the man.  Always has been.  I'm so glad he has a regular role in a show where he's fully recognized.

And all my slagging on Lost doesn't matter when Locke's around, because I'd watch O'Quinn sit on a stool and read a newspaper for an hour and call it good TV.

Episode 4...

I hate to say it, but... Lost is doing okay this season.  Again, only thanks to Henry Gale and Desmond.  Henry, as the leader of the others and the ultimate agent of cool, unblinking evil gets the whole idea across that these guys are The Enemy.  I sure hope, though, that that's what the writers intend, because I can't help but wonder if there's some BSG envy here and they want to make our main crew out to have dirty hands, too.  Excepting Gale, we're meant to feel some sympathy for the other Others.

Desmond, meanwhile, is the Scotsman with a mystery.

Now, great examples of why Lost sucks came up in this episode.  First -- why the fuck is everyone so namby pamby?  Sawyer, Jack, Kate -- the Others are your enemy.  They hurt you.  They violate you.  The hate you.  HATE THEM BACK!  With a vengeance.  And don't let them play you off of each other.  Especially Sawyer, who has long been established as the troubled cowboy and expert conman.  He can't con a bunch of wide-eyed goofballs?  They obviously con him, and he misses it every time.

Second -- why is everyone so stupid?  And why do they assume we're so stupid?  Supposedly Sawyer gets a pacemaker put in to control him.  The wound is a tiny little patch on his chest with a spot of blood and a little square of gauze taped on and he pops up off the table right away.  Would anyone in the world believe that he had a pacemaker put in?  They have to pop open your fucking chest to do that and you're in bed after that shit.

So, I don't know.  It's tooth-grindingly bad, but I am in love with the wicked Henry Gale character and whoever that is playing him.  Just perfect.
